Kathmandu: Nepal has recorded an average of 27 disaster incidents per day over the past 10 months, according to the Nepal Police Headquarters. Speaking to the media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramesh Thapa, the central spokesperson of Nepal Police, revealed that a total of 8,283 disaster incidents occurred during this period, resulting in 589 fatalities and injuries to 1,518 individuals.

SSP Thapa noted that many of these incidents were concentrated during last year's monsoon season, which brought significant human and material losses. Additionally, 32 families were displaced by disasters across the country.

To address the crisis, over 53,000 police personnel were deployed for search, rescue, relief distribution, and the safe relocation of affected populations.

With the monsoon season approaching, the Nepal Police are ramping up preparations. A central Disaster Management Office is coordinating efforts, while Disaster Management Groups have been activated in all provinces. District-level teams will be mobilized as per local needs and risk assessments.

Given forecasts from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology predicting above-average rainfall this monsoon, authorities stress the urgency of effective disaster preparedness and response. The Police Headquarters affirmed that necessary resources and manpower are being readied to mitigate potential damages.
